George Fox University Student Volunteers

People helping people… that’s what Shangri-La is all about. It’s also nice to know we are not alone.

On Wednesday, Sept. 7, a group of students and staff from George Fox University participated in “Serve Day” and took some time off from their busy lives to help set up a patio at one of Shangri-La’s group homes. Serve Day is a day in which George Fox University shuts down for a whole day and encourages students and staff members to donate their time and energy helping out nonprofits, public agencies, senior citizens and others in their local community.

The volunteers worked hard in transforming a drab backyard space into a beautiful patio area, perfect for spending an enjoyable time outdoors. They also enhanced the patio area with benches, garden pots, and a small water fountain, all of which they assembled with the help of Shangri-La’s Cherry City Woodshop Manager, Jim Shrull.

Shangri-La would like to thank all of those involved, especially all the students and staff who took time off from their busy schedules to help. “The group did a fantastic job and had so much fun that said they would like to come back next year and help us again!”, stated Mary Zarate, an Intake & Quality Assurance Manager at Shangri-La. We certainly hope they do!
