Shangri-La CEO Receives 2009 "Al Award" from Oregon Rehabilitation Association
Shangri-La’s CEO, Jan Kral, recently received the Oregon Rehabilitation Association’s (ORA) Al Award for 2009. The award is the most prestigious given by ORA and is presented annually to the individual who has demonstrated “significant contributions to the development, expansion or improvement of rehabilitation facilities and programs, for the ultimate benefit of people with disabilities.”
Many individuals contributed personal letters of nomination, including Senate President Peter Courtney, Senator Frank Morse, Representatives Vicki Berger, Betty Komp, and Jean Cowan. Many other Directors of peer organizations, administrators of state agencies and advocacy organizations also supported her nomination.
Jan’s nomination was especially notable, as she is the only individual to ever have received the award twice. The first recognition was given in 1990 for over 15 years of ORA work, much of it as an ORA Board member in the late 70′s and 80′s. Her efforts over the past 20 years culminated in the largest single state funding increase ever for Developmental Disabilities Comprehensive Services, over $50 million.
We congratulate Jan on her achievement and are proud to have such a dedicated and distinguished CEO leading Shangri-La. The nomination letters are available for viewing at Shangri-La’s Reed Rd. offices.

We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing homes, jobs and supports to Oregonians with disabilities or economic challenges.
