Volunteers Needed to Help Decorate Float!
Yay! It’s that time of year again, you know, Chestnuts roasting on a open fire, Jack Frost nipping at your nose, Yuletide carols being sung by a choir and folks dressed up like Eskimos? Ok, so maybe it hasn’t been that cold here in Oregon yet… but it’s getting there. Of course, this is also the time Shangri-La starts decorating our float for the PGE Festival of Lights Parade.
Shangri-La has participated in the parade for the last 9 years and won numerous awards, including the Grand Sweepstakes Award, twice in the last two years! Our float and costumes have been great crowd pleasers and this year we hope to carry on the tradition, with many more lights, of course, and that’s where we need your help.
This year’s parade theme is “Absolutely Glowing” and we’ve taken it to heart. The Shangri-La float needs thousands (literally!) of lights attached to it. It’s not a difficult process, but it is time consuming and we only have a week and a half to finish it all! So we’re looking for a few good volunteers who would be happy to join us in making our float as pretty as possible.
Invite your friends, family, co-workers, anybody who you think would like to help out and come join us. You’ll be helping us carry on a great local community tradition and hopefully decorating another award winning float. We will be working on it every day this week from 1pm to about 4 or 5pm, as well as next week. The decorating takes place at 1625 Front Street in the Cascade Warehouse building.

If you can’t make it to any of the decoration days, make sure to come and view the parade and support us. On Saturday, December 12, 2009 at 6:30pm. The parade route starts at Willamette University and goes through downtown Salem, Ore. The floats will also be on display on Sunday, December 13th at the Cherriots transit mall from 4:30-8:30pm.
